Tattered Lace Curved Parasol

Tattered Lace

As you know we are now the proud stockist of Tattered Lace Dies. They have proved to be immensely popular.

Jane has been having a bit of a play with the Curved Parasol Die. Although these aren’t cards that are fully finished they do show some great idea’s and I think thats the hardest bit sometimes - thinking outside the box

These dies are so versatile, area’s can be cut out to create borders and other images.
By cutting off the umbrella handle it will give you a wing of a butterfly.

Moving the handle to the left hand side and adding half a parasol will give you a babies push chair. Jane doesn’t like the wheels on this but has since found a tonic die that she can tweak.

I think the reason why i like this post so much is because with one purchase you have endless possibilities and as crafters we are always looking for cost effective ways to craft.

if you have this die and have done something a bit different please feel free to leave us a comment or link to check it out :)

May Workshop - Stencils

Stencils

For this months workshop we had a play with stencils, I think stencils are so versatile, they can be used on any project with various types of mediums, such as embossing, using texture or glitter paste, heat embossing, using pens and inks. So many options with one product.

We had a large group in the afternoon, with a few newbies (who wasn’t sure quite what to expect) but we all had a great time and ate far to many biscuits.

Becki was the only one that finished a card (seen Below). Becki used her stencil to colour through using Promarkers. The card was then cut down and mounted onto two different shades of purple. Becki Finished of the card using a green bow, glass Glintz an Cosmic Shimmer PVA which makes perfect pearls.

Lesley decided to use the Cosmic Shimmer PVA over the Stencil to create this 3D effect. She used a border punch down the edge of the card.

Kriss used a Promarker with the fine tip to draw the tulip pattern and then shaded with  lighter colour.

Julie, Claire, Tracey and Cherie had ago at using texture paste.
Mask all four sides of the stencil to your card using low tack masking tape.
At the top of your stencil put a large amount of the texture paste (covering the width of the stencil) don’t worry about putting to much paste at the top of the stencil, anything that is excess will go straight back into the pot.

Its important to make sure you’ll have enough paste to cover the whole stencil.

We didn’t have a paste applicator so we improvised with a metal ruler.
Put the ruler above the paste angle it to about a 45 degrees. make sure the pressure is not at the end of the stencil, it really needs to be more central so make sure you hand placement is more central on the ruler or applicator.
In one steady movement pull the ruler/applicator down the stencil. Wipe of the excess paste from the ruler back on in your tub. Then repeat the process with a clean ruler/applicator to remove and excess from the stencil.
If you have any area’s in the stencil you have missed you can blob directly onto the stencil. Again wipe of the excess.
Carefully remove the masking tape and leave to dry.

Top tip - Try not to over work the Paste. Rule of thumb is apply the Paste and take away the excess.

Once dried and cut down this will look great on a card.

If anyone is interested in learning more about texture paste and wanting a more visual step by step, or if i have written something that doesn’t make sense, please get in touch ;)

The Cosmic Shimmer PVA and Stencils will be on the website Shortly.

Spectrum Noir Pencils

They are finally on our shelves!!

I was so excited to receive these pencils, I even ordered some Kraft card ready to play, I just didn’t count on how popular they would be in the shop. So i've decided to give the customers a week head start, and after that I say its fair game.

Until then I leave you with the Pictures that the very talented Leann Shivers coloured...

Thanks Jody

Opulence Workshop

Well we've kicked of a new year with plenty of new resolutions. I may try a bit of yoga and keep the stress levels from turning me into Dr Jekyll or is it mr Hyde? I can never remember.

Anyway I'm glad to see the 1st workshop of the new year has been a hit. It wasn't one of our biggest (only 9) but it was certainly one of our most productive sessions.

So for any body looking for inspiration, these cards are made by our crafters and the credit goes to them!
